The Scum of the Brave anime premiered on January 10, 2026, ran for 24 episodes across two back-to-back cours and finished on June 27. It streams on Crunchyroll with English subtitles. The show opens with its thesis in one line: "Being a hero is a job for the lowest kind of scum." In mid-21st-century Tokyo, mafia bosses have used ether enhancement surgery to become Demon Lords, and the "heroes" who hunt them are bounty hunters with a legal license to kill. The best of them is a freelancer called the Reaper, and he would be the first to tell you he is not a good person.

Scum of the Brave Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule

Scum of the Brave aired on Nippon TV and AT-X from January 10 to June 27, 2026, in the Saturday 24:55 slot, which is technically 12:55 a.m. on Sunday. That is why some listings give the dates as January 11 to June 28. OLM animated it, with Shinji Ushiro directing, Yoichi Kato on series composition and scripts, Rika Murakami on character designs and Kenichiro Suehiro on music. Nippon TV committed to two straight cours from the start, a clear vote of confidence in the series.

Crunchyroll vs. Muse Asia: Where to Watch

Crunchyroll licensed the series and streams all 24 episodes with English subtitles in most regions. In South and Southeast Asia, Muse Communication carries it, including free subtitled episodes on the Muse Asia YouTube channel. Some viewers complained about missing English subtitles on certain weeks during the simulcast, but the full season is complete on Crunchyroll now.

Is there a Scum of the Brave English dub? Not as of October 2026. "Will scum of the brave get an english dub" is one of the show's most common searches, and we could not find any dub announcement from Crunchyroll. With a 24-episode season, a dub would be a big commitment, so do not expect one without official news.

Scum of the Brave Plot: Heroes Who Kill for a Living

What is Scum of the Brave about? Heroes in this world do not save princesses. They take bounties. To fight Demon Lords, they boost their own ether powers with a drug called E3, and killing for pay is completely legal. That makes "hero" a polite word for professional killer, and the show leans into how ugly the trade really is.

Yashiro, the freelance hero known as the Reaper, in Scum of the Brave

Into this world walks Aki Jogamine, a high school girl training to become a hero, who shows up at Yashiro's door and declares herself his apprentice. He does not want one. He takes her in anyway, reluctantly, and the two of them get dragged into one terrible case after another. The engine of the show is that pairing: a cynical mentor who thinks heroes are trash and an apprentice who still believes the job can mean something.

Yashiro and Jogamine: The Scum and His Apprentice

The comedy lands because both of them are a little unhinged. Jogamine is far too eager for someone in a lethal profession, and Yashiro is far too honest about how little he cares about honor. Under the jokes, the show keeps asking whether Yashiro is really as rotten as he says, or whether calling himself scum is the only way he can live with the job.

The rest of the cast makes that question harder to answer.

Scum of the Brave Characters and Voice Cast

Who is strongest in Scum of the Brave? The show keeps that ranking deliberately murky, and the answer changes as the second cour introduces the Demon Lords at the top of Tokyo's underworld. We will not spoil who comes out on top. Here are the main characters and their Japanese voice actors (CV):

  • Yashiro, "the Reaper" (CV: Ryota Suzuki): a freelance hero who calls the job work for scum, and does it anyway.
  • Aki Jogamine (CV: Akari Kito): the hero-in-training who appoints herself his apprentice.
  • Yukine Indo (CV: Momo Harumi) and Sara Kashiwagi Pendragon (CV: Yumiri Hanamori): two more key characters in Yashiro's story.
  • Supporting cast: Shinichiro Miki, Katsuyuki Konishi, Tomokazu Sugita as "the Priest" Hijiri Ayashima, and Kenjiro Tsuda, Yuichiro Umehara, Saori Hayami, Ayumu Murase and Sho Hayami as the titled lords of the underworld.

That villain lineup is stacked, and the second cour uses it. If you watched Sentenced to Be a Hero the same season, you may have seen the two shows' official crossover video, a fitting pairing for two series about heroes who are anything but heroic.

Light Novel and Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up

Scum of the Brave is by Rocket Shokai. It first appeared as a single light novel from Fujimi Shobo in December 2016, illustrated by Yuya Kusaka. The anime is credited to the manga by Nakashima723, serialized by Leed Publishing in Comic Border, with 8 print volumes as of December 2025. Manga Planet publishes the manga in English.

  • New light novel edition: Shueisha relaunched the novels on January 23, 2026, the same month the anime premiered, with new art by toi8. Three volumes were out as of June 2026.
  • Where to continue: we could not confirm exactly which chapter the 24-episode finale reaches, so the manga from Volume 1 is the safest way to get the full story.

Scum of the Brave Season 2: Is It Done?

Is Scum of the Brave done? The anime is, for now. The 24-episode season ended on June 27, 2026, and no Season 2 had been announced as of October 2026. "Scum of the brave season 2" and even "season 3" are among its top searches, but a show that already got two full cours has adapted a lot of material, so a sequel would need the relaunched novels and the manga to move further ahead first.
