The Dead Account anime premiered on January 10, 2026, and all 12 episodes stream on Crunchyroll with English subtitles and an English dub. It is a supernatural action show built on one very modern idea: when people die, their social media accounts can turn into ghosts. Soji Enishiro makes his living as Aoringo, an online troll who streams the worst flamebait he can think of. Then the internet's dead come after his little sister, and the guy who profits from hate has to learn how to exorcise it.

Dead Account Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule

Dead Account aired from January 10 to March 28, 2026, on TV Asahi's "IMAnimation" block, which ran it across 24 stations in Japan every Saturday at 11:30 p.m. SynergySP animated the series, with Keiya Saito directing, Mitsutaka Hirota writing the series composition and Keiji Inai composing the music. That late Saturday slot is a statement. TV Asahi saved it for shows it wants to build, and Dead Account opened against a crowded Winter 2026 season.

Crunchyroll vs. Other Platforms: Where to Watch

Crunchyroll holds the license and is the place to watch Dead Account in North America, the UK and most other English-speaking regions. Episodes went up every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. PT (11:00 a.m. ET) during the broadcast run, and the full season is now available to binge. In the US you can also reach it through the Crunchyroll channel on Prime Video, but the stream is the same Crunchyroll release.

Broadcast Time & English Dub Rollout

Is there a Dead Account English dub? Yes. The dub premiered on January 24, 2026, two weeks after the Japanese broadcast, and then released weekly on Saturdays. Caitlin Glass directed it. Here is the whole season at a glance:

A two-week dub gap is short for a new action series, and it tells you Crunchyroll expected an audience. Twelve episodes is also a tight run for a show with this many characters, which shapes everything about how the story is paced.

Dead Account Plot: Exorcists for the Social Media Afterlife

In Dead Account, the dead do not haunt houses. They haunt accounts. When someone dies with unfinished business, their social media can turn into a "ghost account," and the spirit inside it can hurt the living. A new generation of exorcists fights back with powers that have gone digital too, run through their phones and built around the same platforms the ghosts live on.

Soji is the worst possible recruit for that job, at least on paper. Crunchyroll's own description sums him up: a troll who rakes in money from hate-watchers, who is also a high school dropout, a caring older brother and a man with a serious sweet tooth. Everything he does online is for his little sister, Akari. When a spirit attack drags her into the world of ghost accounts, Soji enrolls in a school that trains exorcists for the digital age, and the troll ends up in a classroom.

Flamebait as a Weapon: Why Soji Fits This World

The clever part of the setup is that Soji's worst habit becomes his strength. He knows how online hate works because he has farmed it for a living. He understands attention, provocation and how to make people lose their temper, and those are exactly the instincts an exorcist needs against spirits that feed on obsession. The first episode plays this for laughs, then quietly turns it into a real question: can someone who profits from cruelty online be trusted to protect people from it?

His classmates are not sure, and they are not shy about saying so.

Dead Account Characters and Voice Cast

Who are the Dead Account characters worth knowing? The core trio is Soji, Kukuru and Kiyomi, with a classroom of eccentric exorcists and one self-described old-timer of a teacher around them. Here are the main characters with their Japanese voice actors (CV) and English dub voices.

Soji Enishiro (CV: Nobuhiko Okamoto; English: Parker Davis Gray)

Soji Enishiro, the blue-haired streamer Aoringo, in the Dead Account anime

The streamer Aoringo, a troll online and a devoted big brother offline. Loud, reckless and much smarter than he lets anyone see.

Kukuru Kasubata (CV: Koki Uchiyama; English: Brandon Solis)

Kukuru Kasubata, Soji's calm black-haired classmate, in Dead Account

One of the series' three leads and a fellow student at the exorcist school, cast alongside Okamoto from the very first announcement.

Kiyomi Urusugawa (CV: Fairouz Ai; English: Hayden Daviau)

Kiyomi Urusugawa with purple twin tails in the Dead Account anime

The third lead of the series and one of the first cast members announced, with Fairouz Ai bringing her usual punch to the role.

Renri Hasumi (CV: Natsuki Hanae; English: Landon McDonald)

Renri Hasumi, a blond exorcist student, in Dead Account

Friendly and bright on the surface, but Hanae plays him with a quiet, grown-up distance that is hard to read.

Hiyori Haijima (CV: Machico; English: Jad Saxton)

Hiyori Haijima with the school mascot Denmi-chan in Dead Account

A shy gamer girl who becomes wildly hyper when she takes over the school's mascot character, Denmi-chan.

Naruhiko Emoto (CV: Ryota Suzuki; English: Davon Oliver)

Naruhiko Emoto, a blond student exorcist, in the Dead Account anime

Looks like a flirt, is secretly a coward, and still has the guts to stand up for his friends when it counts.

Yoimaru Azaki (CV: Takuya Sato; English: Ryan Negrón)

Yoimaru Azaki, the class teacher, in Dead Account

The homeroom teacher who calls himself an old-timer. Whether he is as reliable as he claims is another matter.

The other first-year class adds Fumiya Imai, Gen Sato, Maaya Uchida, Kentaro Kumagai, Masaya Miyazaki and Jun Fukuyama to the Japanese cast, with Justin Briner, Aaron Dismuke, Lily Gast, Brian Vigen, Ciarán Strange and Ethan Marshall voicing the same roles in English. Lara Woodhull voices Akari in the dub.

That is a big cast for 12 episodes, and it raises the obvious question: how much of the manga did the anime actually get through?

Manga Guide: Where the Anime Leaves Off

Dead Account is based on the manga by Shizumu Watanabe, the creator of Real Account. It started in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine on January 18, 2023, moved to the Magazine Pocket app that October, and reached its 16th volume on September 16, 2026. In English, Kodansha publishes it digitally, and new chapters run on the K Manga app.

  • Where the anime ends: episode guides place Episode 12 at roughly Chapters 23 and 24.
  • Where to start reading: Chapter 25 picks up right after the finale.
  • How much is left: 16 volumes are out, so the anime covered only the opening stretch.

Two chapters per episode is a brisk pace, which is why the season moves quickly through its setup. It also means a second season would have a deep library of material waiting.

Dead Account Season 2: Is It Happening?

No Dead Account Season 2 has been announced as of October 2026. The first season ended on March 28 with no sequel news, and neither the official site nor Kodansha has confirmed a follow-up. "Dead account season 2" and "dead account season 2 release date" are still among the most common searches for the show, so fans are clearly waiting.

The signs are mixed. The manga has more than enough material, Crunchyroll paid for a fast dub, and the series also has a game deal in development. Against that, a single 12-episode season with no immediate sequel announcement usually means the decision is waiting on sales. For now, the manga is the only way to find out what Soji does next.
