Why Do Some Manga Have No Box Set?

Publishers like VIZ Media usually release a box set only after a series ends, or after a major arc ends. Demon Slayer got its Complete Box Set after the manga finished, and Jujutsu Kaisen got one after its final volume came out in English. Long-running or paused series such as Frieren, Dandadan and Oshi no Ko are still sold as single volumes, so any sealed "complete set" for them is a bundle made by a seller, not by the publisher.

That is why the same search, "[series] manga box set english", has a different answer for every series. Here is how to check a listing yourself.

How to Tell an Official Box Set From a Fake One

An official English box set is listed on the publisher's own website with its own ISBN. If you cannot find the set on VIZ Media, Yen Press or Square Enix's site, it is not an official box set.

• Check the publisher page. Search the set's name on the publisher's site. No page means no official set.
• Check the ISBN. VIZ Media books use ISBNs starting with 978-1-9747 or 978-1-4215. Compare the back cover with the publisher's listing.
• Check the volume count. A "Vol 1–30" set for a series that has 22 English volumes cannot be real.
• Check the seller. Bookstores, the publisher and Amazon.com itself are safe. A "new sealed complete set" shipped from abroad by a marketplace seller is the risk.
