There is no official Apothecary Diaries box set in English, for the light novels or for either manga. Square Enix Manga & Books prints Natsu Hyuuga's light novels and Nekokurage's manga as single volumes, and VIZ Media started a second manga in October 2026, also as single volumes. So the sealed "Apothecary Diaries Vol 1-15 full set" listings on eBay are not official products. Is There an Official Apothecary Diaries Box Set in English?

No official Apothecary Diaries box set exists in English. We checked the Square Enix Manga & Books series pages for the light novel and the manga, and VIZ Media's new manga line: all of them are sold as single paperback volumes, with no box set, hardcover or collector's edition announced.

The "full sets" that come up when you search are resellers bundling single volumes, and some of them are unofficial reprints. The quickest check is the ISBN on the back: real Square Enix volumes start with 978-1-64609 (newer ones with 979-8-8991), and VIZ volumes with 978-1-9747. A set that arrives in a printed box is not official, since no publisher makes one.

Light Novel vs Manga: Which Apothecary Diaries Should You Buy?

The light novels are the original story. Natsu Hyuuga's novels are what both manga and the anime adapt, and they carry the most detail, with more of Maomao's thoughts and more room for each mystery.

• Light novels (Square Enix Manga & Books, print): 10 volumes out, Volume 11 on November 10, 2026, and Volume 12 on February 2, 2027. J-Novel Club sells the same translation as ebooks, 16 volumes so far. Best if you want the full story the anime follows.
• Manga by Nekokurage (Square Enix Manga & Books): the longer-running English manga. 15 volumes in English, Volume 16 on November 10, 2026. Best if you want the most manga to read right now.
• Manga by Minoji Kurata, "Maomao's Notes on the Inner Palace" (VIZ Media): a separate adaptation from Shogakukan's Sunday GX. Volume 1 came out on October 20, 2026, Volume 2 is due December 15, 2026, and Volume 3 February 16, 2027. Best if you want to start a series from Volume 1 as it comes out.

Both manga are official, so buying both is not buying a duplicate: they are two artists telling the same story in their own way. Square Enix also sells the official Apothecary Diaries light novel art book (May 2025), a good gift for fans of Touko Shino's illustrations.

Which Apothecary Diaries Light Novel Should I Read After the Anime?

Start with Light Novel Volume 5. Season 1 (24 episodes, 2023 to 2024) covers Volumes 1 and 2, and Season 2 (24 episodes, January to July 2025) covers Volumes 3 and 4.
