The Hana-Kimi anime premiered on January 4, 2026, and streams on Crunchyroll with a same-day English dub. Season 1 ran 12 episodes, Season 2 added 13 more from July to September 2026, and the whole 25-episode run is available now. It took a long time to get here. Hisaya Nakajo's manga started in 1996, sold more than 17 million copies and inspired live-action dramas across Asia, but it never had an anime until now. The premise is the same one fans have loved for decades: a girl from America cuts her hair, disguises herself as a boy and transfers to an all-boys school to meet the high jumper who inspired her.

Hana-Kimi Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule

Season 1 aired from January 4 to March 22, 2026, on TOKYO MX and BS11, with MBS and other stations following. Signal.MD, part of the Production I.G group, animated it, with Natsuki Takemura directing, Takao Yoshioka on series composition, Su Shi Yi on character designs and Masaru Yokoyama on music. Giving a classic 1990s shojo manga to a modern studio was a risk. Fans of the dramas already had strong ideas about these characters.

Crunchyroll vs. Netflix: Where to Watch

Crunchyroll streams Hana-Kimi, and in the US it is a Crunchyroll exclusive. That answers a common search, "hana-kimi netflix": the anime is not on Netflix in the US. In Japan, Season 2 also streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Broadcast Time & English Dub Rollout

Is Hana-Kimi dubbed in English? Yes, and Crunchyroll went all in. Season 1 had a same-day English dub, so dub episodes arrived on the same day as the Japanese broadcast. Katelyn Barr voices Mizuki, Wyatt Baker voices Sano and Dallas Reid voices Nakatsu, with Jad Saxton directing. The Season 2 dub started on July 15, 2026, with its first two episodes.

How many episodes does Hana-Kimi have? Twenty-five so far. Getting YOASOBI for both songs in Season 1 was a statement, too. Aniplex and Crunchyroll treated this as a major release, not a nostalgia project, and the fast Season 2 turnaround proved it.

Hana-Kimi Plot: A Secret Only One Boy Can Keep

What is Hana-Kimi in English? The full title, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, means "For You in Full Blossom," and Hana-Kimi is its nickname. Mizuki Ashiya is a Japanese girl living in America who idolizes Izumi Sano, a high jumper she once watched compete. When she learns he has stopped jumping, she transfers from the US to his all-boys high school, Osaka Gakuen, disguised as a boy, and moves into his dorm room.

The comedy comes from how badly she hides it, and the romance comes from the people who notice. Every week, Mizuki risks being found out in a school full of boys, and every week she gets a little closer to the person she came to help. The question that drives the show is simple and painful: what happens to everything she has built when the truth comes out?

The Boys of Osaka Gakuen

The school itself is the show's best supporting character. The dorms are split into rival houses with their own leaders, the school doctor knows far more than he lets on, and the students are loud, competitive and completely ridiculous. Season 1 is a hangout comedy as much as a romance, and the cast makes it work.

That cast is one of the strongest of the year.

Hana-Kimi Characters and Voice Cast

Here are the main characters with their Japanese voice actors (CV) and English dub voices:

Mizuki Ashiya (CV: Aya Yamane; English: Katelyn Barr)

A girl from America who disguises herself as a boy to get close to Sano and help him jump again.

Izumi Sano (CV: Taku Yashiro; English: Wyatt Baker)

Izumi Sano, the former high jumper, in the Hana-Kimi anime

The quiet, guarded high jumper who has stopped jumping, and Mizuki's new roommate.

Shuichi Nakatsu (CV: Kikunosuke Toya; English: Dallas Reid)

Shuichi Nakatsu, the blond soccer player, in Hana-Kimi

A loud, warm-hearted classmate whose growing feelings for Mizuki throw him into total confusion.

The supporting cast is stacked: Yuichiro Umehara as dorm leader Minami Nanba, Jun Fukuyama as the school doctor Hokuto Umeda, Koki Uchiyama as Taiki Kayashima, Satoshi Hino as Makoto Kagurazaka, Junya Enoki as Itsuki Kujo and Takehito Koyasu as Masao Himejima. The English dub adds Joshua Waters and Reagan Murdock among others.

Many fans meet these characters for the first time through the dramas, which is worth a short detour.

Manga and Drama Guide: Where the Anime Fits

Hana-Kimi ran in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume from 1996 to 2004 and finished at 23 volumes. Viz Media published the full series in English. Before the anime, it was adapted into live-action dramas in Taiwan in 2006, in Japan in 2007 and 2011, and in South Korea in 2012 as To the Beautiful You. That is the "hana-kimi japanese drama" so many people search for.

The 2007 Japanese drama on Fuji TV, starring Maki Horikita, Shun Oguri and Toma Ikuta, is the version most fans remember, and it was popular enough to get a 2011 remake starring Atsuko Maeda. Taiwan's 2006 drama starred Ella Chen and Wu Chun, and Korea's To the Beautiful You starred Sulli and Choi Minho. Every version changed the story to fit its own market. The anime is the first adaptation that can follow Nakajo's manga closely, with its original characters, names and running jokes intact. For longtime fans who only knew the dramas, that is the biggest reason to watch, and for manga readers it is the version they waited almost 30 years to see.

  • Is the manga finished? Yes, at 23 volumes.
  • Where the anime sits: two seasons and 25 episodes cover the early and middle parts of a long story.
  • Where to read: Volume 1. The anime trims small side stories that made the manga a classic.

Is There a Hana-Kimi Season 3?

Season 2 already aired from July 1 to September 16, 2026, and no Season 3 has been announced as of October 2026. With 23 volumes of material and two strong seasons behind it, the story is far from out of road. The fast turnaround between Seasons 1 and 2 also suggests the production committee is committed, which makes a third season a realistic hope.
