Kunon the Sorcerer Can See aired 13 episodes from January 4 to March 29, 2026, and it streams on Crunchyroll. Kunon Gurion was born blind, and at the age most kids are learning to read, he sets himself a goal no sorcerer has ever reached: to build a new pair of eyes out of water magic. Five months into his lessons, he has already surpassed his teacher. The question is not whether he is a genius. It is what a genius does when the rules of magic say his dream is impossible.
Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule
Kunon the Sorcerer Can See premiered on Sunday, January 4, 2026, on TOKYO MX, BS Asahi and other stations, and its 13th and final episode aired on March 29. Platinum Vision animated it, with Hideaki Oba directing and Yui Enatsu handling series composition and scripts. It was one of the quieter fantasy premieres of the season, and one of the most talked about by the time it ended.
Crunchyroll vs. Remow: Where to Watch
Crunchyroll streams Kunon the Sorcerer Can See outside Asia, and Remow licensed it for Southeast Asia. As for "kunon the sorcerer can see english dub release date," there is no date to give. No English dub has been announced, so the series is subtitled only for now.
Broadcast Time & Episode Rollout
New episodes landed on Crunchyroll every Sunday at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET, a few hours after the Japanese broadcast. The season splits into two halves: Kunon's childhood training, then a jump to the Magic Academy, which the studio promoted with its own trailer in February.
| Detail | Kunon the Sorcerer Can See | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Run | January 4 – March 29, 2026 | A full Winter 2026 season. |
| Episodes | 13 | Childhood arc, then the Magic School arc. |
| Streaming | Crunchyroll; Remow (Southeast Asia) | Sundays, 7:00 a.m. PT; no English dub announced. |
| Studio | Platinum Vision | Directed by Hideaki Oba. |
| Opening | "Lachenalia no Yume" by Isekaijoucho | Dreamy, like Kunon's view of magic. |
| Ending | "Story feat. katagiri" by KOHTA YAMAMOTO | Closes each episode on a hopeful note. |
Thirteen episodes is enough to get Kunon into the Academy, and not nearly enough to get him his eyes. That gap is the whole hook.
Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Plot: A Blind Boy Who Invents His Way Forward
Kunon's goal is simple to say and impossible to do. Water magic can shape, move and hold water, so why not shape it into eyes? Nobody has tried, because everybody knows it cannot work. Kunon does not care what everybody knows.
What makes the show fun is how he gets there. Kunon cannot see colors, so he learns to sense them through mana. He uses basic water spells to make hand warmers and cold compresses. He builds a cat out of beginner magic, just to see if he can. Every invention starts as a side project and ends up impressing the court sorcerers who were sure a blind child could never keep up. This is not a power fantasy where the hero is born overpowered. Kunon earns every step, and he is having a great time doing it.
The show also avoids the usual trap of disability stories. Kunon's blindness is never a tragedy to be cured in one episode, and the people around him do not treat him as fragile. He is curious, a little arrogant and very funny, and the series is more interested in how he thinks than in what he lacks.
The friction comes from the world around him. A genius who breaks the rules makes enemies, and a blind noble's son who outpaces the masters is easy to underestimate and dangerous to ignore.
The Magic School Arc
The second half moves Kunon to an elite Magic Academy, where he is no longer the only gifted student. New rivals, new teachers and strange visions he cannot explain push the story from cozy inventor fantasy toward something with bigger stakes. It is also where the show plants the seeds for a second season, and leaves them unpicked.
Who helps Kunon along the way matters as much as the magic.
Kunon Gurion and the People Who Believe in Him
So, can Kunon actually see? Not yet, and that is the honest answer to the title. "Can see" is the dream, and the joke, and the promise. By the end of Season 1, Kunon perceives the world through mana and color in ways no sighted person can, but he has not finished his eyes. Here is the main cast with their Japanese voice actors (CV):
- Kunon Gurion (CV: Saori Hayami): a blind boy and magic prodigy with endless curiosity.
- Iko Round (CV: Maaya Uchida): Kunon's maid and closest companion, who treats him like a kid, not a patient.
- Mirika Hughlia (CV: Akari Kito): Kunon's fiancée, a princess with her own strong opinions.
- Jenie Kors (CV: Rikako Yamaguchi): his first magic teacher, who is surpassed in five months.
- Zeonly Finroll (CV: Nobunaga Shimazaki): the brilliant, difficult magic engineer who takes Kunon as an apprentice.
- Reyes Sentrance (CV: Saori Onishi) and Riya Horse (CV: Shun Horie): two of the characters who enter Kunon's life as his world widens beyond home.
Saori Hayami, who also leads Tamon's B-Side this season, plays Kunon with a bright, slightly mischievous calm that keeps him likable even when he is the smartest person in the room. And he usually is.
If you want to know whether he ever finishes those eyes, the books are ahead of the anime.
Light Novel and Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up
Kunon the Sorcerer Can See started as a web novel by Umikaze Minamino on Shosetsuka ni Naro in August 2021. Fujimi Shobo began publishing it as a light novel in March 2022, with illustrations by Laruha, and nine volumes were out as of September 2026. It ranked seventh in the book category of the 2023 Next Light Novel Awards.
- Light novel: 9 volumes in Japan, licensed in English by Yen Press.
- Manga: drawn by La-na, serialized in Monthly Comic Alive since April 2022, with 8 volumes as of June 2026. Yen Press publishes it in English too.
- Where the anime ends: Season 1 takes Kunon into his time at the Magic Academy, which means the later light novel volumes are still unadapted.
With nine volumes and the web novel still ahead, there is plenty of material for a sequel. Whether it happens may depend on how the first season sold, and that answer has not arrived.
