Blue Miburo: Serizawa Assassination Arc aired 14 episodes from December 20, 2025, to March 28, 2026, and it streams on Crunchyroll with English subtitles. The title tells you how it ends. What it does not tell you is how much it hurts to get there, because Season 2 spends most of its run making you understand Kamo Serizawa before the Miburo decide he has to die. Nio wanted the group to grow. Growing meant choosing between loyalty and survival.
Blue Miburo Serizawa Assassination Arc Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule
Blue Miburo Season 2 premiered on Saturday, December 20, 2025, on the Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV network, and its finale aired on Saturday, March 28, 2026. That December start is why some fans file it under Fall 2025, but almost the whole run aired in Winter 2026, which is where we list it. MAHO FILM animated it again, with director Kumiko Habara, series composer Kenta Ihara and Yuki Hayashi on music.
Crunchyroll vs. OceanVeil: Where to Watch
Crunchyroll is the main home of Blue Miburo outside Asia, and both seasons are there with English subtitles. OceanVeil also streams the series. If you searched "Blue Miburo English dub," here is the short answer: no English dub of Season 2 has been announced, so for now this arc is sub-only. Its manga is sold in English as The Blue Wolves of Mibu, which is why the anime turns up under two names.
Broadcast Time & Episode Rollout
Episodes aired weekly on Saturdays in Japan and reached Crunchyroll the same day. Fourteen episodes is an odd number for a TV season, and it was a deliberate choice: the show needed room to build the assassination slowly instead of rushing it into a single cour.
| Detail | Blue Miburo Season 2 | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Run | December 20, 2025 – March 28, 2026 | A Winter 2026 show with a December head start. |
| Episodes | 14 (38 across both seasons) | Season 1 had 24 episodes. |
| Streaming | Crunchyroll, OceanVeil | Subtitled; no English dub announced. |
| Studio | MAHO FILM | Same team as Season 1. |
| Opening | "Blue Noise" by Ryosuke Yamada | Sung by the Hey! Say! JUMP member. |
| Ending | "Utakata" by Soushi Sakiyama | "Utakata" means a bubble that bursts, which fits the arc. |
The schedule matters less than the countdown in the title. From Episode 1, you know where Serizawa ends up. The question is who swings the sword, and why.
Serizawa Assassination Arc Plot: A Group That Has to Kill Its Own Leader
Season 2 opens with the Miburo trying to grow. Nio, the soft-hearted boy at the center of the story, tells them that to protect Kyoto they have to stop playing it safe and move forward. The group starts recruiting, and every new member makes it harder to ignore the man at the top. Kamo Serizawa is the Miburo's lead commander, and he is violent, drunk and impossible to control. Under him, the group that wants to protect the city starts to look like a threat to it.
History already tells you the ending. In 1863, the real Mibu Roshigumi killed their own commander Serizawa and became the Shinsengumi. The anime does not pretend otherwise. Instead, it asks a harder question: what if Serizawa was not just a monster? The official synopsis calls it a clash of justices that nobody will give up, and it ends in what the show calls a fleeting assassination. Nio is caught in the middle, a kid who sees the good in everyone, watching people he cares about plan a murder.
Hijikata, Kondo and the Fight for the Miburo's Soul
The real power struggle is between Serizawa's faction and the men who will run the Shinsengumi: Isami Kondo, Toshizo Hijikata and Soji Okita. Hijikata is the strategist who decides the group cannot survive with Serizawa in charge. Kondo is the leader who has to live with that decision. Their side is not clean either, and the show makes sure you feel it. Season 2 also adds Susumu Yamazaki, the Shinsengumi's future spy, voiced by Taku Yashiro, and brings in outside figures like Kogoro Katsura and Ryoma Sakamoto. The Miburo's politics are getting bigger than one man.
That leaves the one character the title is about.
Kamo Serizawa: The Villain Season 2 Asks You to Understand
Kamo Serizawa, voiced by Ryota Takeuchi, is the reason this arc works. In Season 1 he was a brute. In Season 2 he gets a past, a code and moments of real kindness, especially toward Nio. The show keeps him dangerous, but it stops letting you hate him comfortably, and that is why the assassination lands as a tragedy instead of a victory.
So, is Blue Miburo a good anime? Season 2 is the strongest argument for yes. It trades Season 1's fights for a slow-burning moral thriller, and it is braver for it. Here is who you are watching, with their Japanese voice actors (CV):
- Nio Chirinu (CV: Shuichiro Umeda): the kind-hearted boy who joins the Miburo and cannot stop believing in people.
- Hajime Saito (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi): Nio's quiet friend and one of the Miburo's deadliest swords.
- Taro Tanaka (CV: Shun Horie): the third member of Nio's trio, with a past he does not talk about.
- Kamo Serizawa (CV: Ryota Takeuchi): the Miburo's lead commander, and the man the arc is named after.
- Toshizo Hijikata (CV: Yohei Azakami): the vice-commander who decides Serizawa has to go.
- Isami Kondo (CV: Tomokazu Sugita): the commander who will lead the Shinsengumi.
- Soji Okita (CV: Kensho Ono): the Miburo's smiling prodigy swordsman.
- Nishiki Niimi (CV: Yuichiro Umehara): Serizawa's right hand, and the first warning sign of what is coming.
Once Serizawa is gone, the Miburo stop being the Miburo. And that is exactly where the manga is already waiting.
Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up
Blue Miburo adapts Tsuyoshi Yasuda's manga, serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since October 2021. Kodansha USA publishes it in English as The Blue Wolves of Mibu, starting in February 2024. The story comes in two parts:
- Part 1 ran 14 volumes and ended in April 2024. Season 1 and the Serizawa Assassination Arc bring the anime to the end of this first story, the Miburo's years before the name change.
- Part 2, the Shinsengumi Arc (Ao no Miburo: Shinsengumi-hen), started on April 24, 2024, and has 12 volumes as of September 2026. This is where the Miburo become the Shinsengumi, and it is the material for any Season 3.
That means a third season would not need to wait for the manga. With 12 volumes of the Shinsengumi Arc out already, there is enough material for at least one more season, and the history it is heading toward, Ikedaya included, is the most famous chapter in the Shinsengumi's story.
