The Hell Mode anime premiered on January 9, 2026, and streams exclusively on HIDIVE in North America with an English dub. Season 1 ran 12 episodes, Season 2 added 13 more over the summer, and a third season is already confirmed. The setup is every isekai you have seen, with one rule flipped. Kenichi Yamada did not get lucky. He chose the hardest difficulty on purpose, and now he has to live with it as a farm boy in a world with no guides, no wikis and no shortcuts.

Hell Mode Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule

Hell Mode premiered late on Friday, January 9, 2026, on TOKYO MX and MBS, and Season 1 ended on March 27. Because the slot runs past midnight, some listings show January 10 to March 28. Yokohama Animation Lab animated it, with Masato Tamagawa directing and Daishiro Tanimura on series composition. The full English title is a mouthful: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing.

HIDIVE vs. Crunchyroll: Where to Watch

HIDIVE is the home of Hell Mode, not Crunchyroll. That surprises a lot of people, because "hell mode crunchyroll" is one of the most common searches for the show. HIDIVE simulcast Season 1 every Friday at 9:35 a.m. PT, then added an English dub in March 2026. Season 2 followed the same pattern, with its English dub streaming on HIDIVE from August.

Broadcast Time & Episode Rollout

Will Hell Mode be dubbed in English? It already is. Both seasons are dubbed on HIDIVE, with Luci Christian voicing Allen. Here is how the two seasons break down:

Twenty-five episodes in one year is a fast turnaround for an isekai, and it says something about how well Season 1 did. The numbers matter less than what they mean: the studio is committed, and Allen's grind is going to keep getting screen time.

Hell Mode Plot: An Isekai Where Leveling Up Actually Hurts

Kenichi Yamada is a 35-year-old office worker who hates easy games. He wants something he can grind for ten years. He finds a nameless online game, picks its highest difficulty, "Hell Mode," and is reborn as Allen, the son of a serf in a world where his class, Summoner, is a rare and mysterious talent nobody understands.

Then he discovers what Hell Mode really means. The experience needed to level up is enormous. There are no strategy guides and no forums to tell him how his class works. Every step forward is trial and error, and the error can kill him. That is the hook, and the reason "hell mode anime" searches jumped more than 1,000 percent this year. Most isekai heroes start strong. Allen starts behind, on purpose, and has to out-think a game that was designed to be unfair.

The Summoner Class: How Allen's Power Works

Allen's power is his summons, creatures he can call and grow by collecting resources and testing combinations. The fun is watching a hardcore gamer reverse-engineer a system with no manual. He tracks numbers, tests limits and finds builds nobody else would think of. The friction is his station: a serf is not supposed to rise, and a talented serf draws the attention of nobles who want to use him.

The anime leans into the game layer without drowning in it. Allen's status screens, summon cards and experience grinds are shown just often enough to track his progress, and the show skips the long menus that slow down so many isekai. What stays on screen is the planning: Allen working out a strategy, testing it and adjusting when the world refuses to play fair. For a show about grinding, it moves quickly.

That attention is what pulls Allen out of his village, and toward the people who will shape his future.

Allen and the Party: Characters and Cast

Is Hell Mode a good anime? If you like isekai that respect game logic, yes. Allen is not a blank wish-fulfillment hero. He is stubborn, calculating and occasionally ruthless about efficiency, and the show is honest about how much that costs the people around him. Here are the main characters and their Japanese voice actors (CV):

  • Allen (CV: Mutsumi Tamura; English: Luci Christian): the reincarnated gamer and a Summoner born into serfdom.
  • Krena (CV: Mayu Iizuka): Allen's childhood friend from the village, with a talent of her own.
  • Dogora (CV: Yu Hatanaka): another childhood friend who wants to become strong enough to stand beside them.
  • Cecil (CV: Ayaka Senbongi): the noble daughter whose path crosses Allen's in Granvelle.
  • Rodin (CV: Hideo Ishikawa) and Teresia (CV: Sayaka Ohara): Allen's parents in his new life.
  • Butler von Granvelle (CV: Tomokazu Sugita): the lord of the territory where Allen's story begins to change.
  • Zenof (CV: Akio Otsuka): a seasoned figure who sees Allen's potential.

Mutsumi Tamura plays Allen with a dry, almost bored focus that makes his flashes of excitement funny. Luci Christian's English performance is closer to a gamer narrating a speedrun, and it works just as well.

Season 2 already moved Allen to the Academy. The light novel is much further ahead.

Light Novel and Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up

Hell Mode is based on Hamuo's web novel, which started on Shosetsuka ni Naro on November 17, 2019. Earth Star Entertainment has published it as a light novel since July 2020, with 14 volumes out as of July 2026.

  • Light novel in English: J-Novel Club publishes it digitally, and Yen Press handles print.
  • Manga: drawn by Enji Tetta in Comic Earth Star since October 2020, with 14 volumes as of July 2026. J-Novel Club releases it in English.
  • Season 1 covers Allen's childhood and his first steps out of the village into Granvelle.
  • Season 2 covers the Academy arc and moves into the Rosenheim arc.
  • Season 3 has been announced for the "S-Rank Dungeon Conquest Arc," with no date yet.

A dungeon arc is exactly where a hardcore gamer belongs, and it is the material fans have been waiting for since Episode 1.
