The Overgeared anime release date was Friday, October 2, 2026: J.C.STAFF's adaptation, titled Tempal: The Power of Items (テムパル~アイテムの力~) in Japan, premiered at 23:30 JST on TOKYO MX and BS11, with Crunchyroll streaming it worldwide. Most VRMMO anime hand the story to a gifted, likeable hero. Overgeared gives it to Shin Youngwoo, known in-game as Grid: a broke, petty, jealous player who has failed at almost everything, in the game and out of it. Then a legendary blacksmith's book drops him into the rarest class in the game, Pagma's Descendant, at negative level, with nothing but a hammer and a grudge. His weapons aren't talent or luck. They're crafting, patience and spite.

Overgeared Anime Release Date, Episode Schedule, and Where to Watch

Overgeared airs weekly in Japan on Fridays at 23:30 JST on TOKYO MX and BS11, starting October 2, 2026. AT-X follows on Mondays at 22:30 JST from October 5. Japanese streaming actually started earlier: Prime Video in Japan has carried each episode first, on Sundays at 23:30 JST since September 27, with other Japanese platforms joining on October 4.

The story behind all of it is the VR game SATISFY, a world with two billion players where fame and money earned in the game carry over into real life. That's why Youngwoo plays: not for fun, but because he's in debt and the game is the only ladder he can see.

Overgeared Anime Crunchyroll Simulcast & Global Streaming Platforms

Outside Japan, the place to watch is Crunchyroll, which licensed the series ahead of the premiere. If you're searching "Overgeared anime where to watch," that's the answer for most of the world: subtitled episodes stream weekly on Crunchyroll.

Dub fans don't have to wait long, either. Crunchyroll announced an English dub before launch, with episode 1 set for September 27, 2026, and Ricco Fajardo voicing Grid and Alexis Tipton voicing Irene. Crunchyroll hasn't listed a single global release time or every region the dub covers, so check the series page in your own region for exact timing.

Broadcast Schedule & Episode Rollout

One episode a week is the plan. Here's how the Japanese TV slot converts for viewers elsewhere, based on the October broadcast time:

RegionJapanese TV slot (Fridays, 23:30 JST)
Japan (JST)Friday, 23:30
UTCFriday, 14:30
US Eastern (EDT)Friday, 10:30 a.m.
US Pacific (PDT)Friday, 7:30 a.m.
UK (BST)Friday, 15:30
Central Europe (CEST)Friday, 16:30

Clocks change in Europe on October 25 and in the US on November 1, so the converted times move one hour earlier from then on. Crunchyroll's own release time can differ from the TV slot.

The total episode count hasn't been announced, and neither has whether the anime runs for one cour or two. A typical single cour is 12 or 13 episodes, which would only scratch the surface of a story this long. More on that once we get to the source material. First, the question every manhwa reader asks when they see the art.

From Solo Leveling's Art House to J.C.STAFF: The Manhwa Adaptation Leap

A lot of searches pair Overgeared with Solo Leveling, and there's a real link, just not the one people expect. The connection is on the webtoon side. The Overgeared webtoon is a REDICE STUDIO production: Monohumbug (REDICE STUDIO) adapted Saenal's novel and Team Argo illustrates it. REDICE STUDIO is the same studio behind the Solo Leveling and Tomb Raider King webtoons, which is why the two share a certain polished, high-contrast style.

The anime is a different story. Solo Leveling's TV anime came from A-1 Pictures. Overgeared is animated by J.C.STAFF, the veteran studio behind DanMachi and A Certain Scientific Railgun, with EGG FIRM producing. So no, it isn't made by the Solo Leveling anime studio, but it does come from the same webtoon family.

The staff list is built for this kind of show. Director Ayako Kono has already handled a VR-game story on Sword Art Online Progressive, and series composer Kenta Ihara wrote Sentenced to Be a Hero. Ryosuke Tanigawa designs the characters and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composes the music. Their biggest job is the interface: Overgeared lives in item windows, crafting results and stat screens, and the joke only works if you can read a legendary item's numbers in the same glance as Grid's face when he sees them.

The theme songs set the tone, too: the opening is "SATISFY" by Re:name, and the ending is "Ray of Emotion" by 導凰.

Of course, none of that matters if the people on screen aren't worth following.

Overgeared Character Guide: Grid and the Satisfy Heavyweights

Episode 1, "Legendary Class Change," starts with Grid finishing an S-rank quest and getting an item that changes his class to a legendary one. He tries to sell it instead, gets hunted by a count for his trouble, and finally uses it in desperation. That's how he ends up as Pagma's Descendant, starting over at a negative level with almost nothing. Everyone he meets from there either looks down on him or wants something from him.

Grid / Shin Youngwoo (CV: Tatsumaru Tachibana)

Grid / Shin Youngwoo

Buried in debt, quick to resent anyone luckier than him, and suddenly holding the most powerful crafting class in SATISFY as Pagma's Descendant. Watching him grow up is the whole point, and he takes his time.

Yura (CV: Asami Seto)

Yura

One of SATISFY's top-ranked players, cool and calculating, and one of the first people strong enough to make Grid feel small.

Jishuka (CV: Riho Sugiyama)

Jishuka

The lethal archer of the Tzedakah Guild, the elite ranker guild whose path keeps crossing Grid's.

Euphemina (CV: Saya Fukuzumi)

Euphemina

A Duplicator who can copy other players' skills, and who always seems to have an agenda of her own.

Behind them is the core of the Tzedakah Guild, a crew of top rankers who start as people Grid envies and become something more complicated.

Faker (CV: Shunichi Toki)

Faker

A core member of the Tzedakah Guild and one of the top rankers Grid measures himself against.

Vantner (CV: Katsuya Fukunishi)

Vantner

A core member of the Tzedakah Guild, part of the elite crew that starts out as everything Grid envies.

Pon (CV: Kohei Amasaki)

Pon

A core member of the Tzedakah Guild, one of the rankers whose world Grid gets pulled into.

Regas (CV: Ko Bonkobara)

Regas

A core member of the Tzedakah Guild, part of the top-tier party that keeps crossing paths with Grid.

Toban (CV: Masaaki Mizunaka)

Toban

A core member of the Tzedakah Guild, rounding out the ranker crew around Jishuka.

And outside the player guilds, the NPCs of SATISFY matter just as much, because in this game the nobility can make or break you.

Lady Irene (CV: Yuki Murata)

Lady Irene

A noblewoman of SATISFY's NPC world, and proof that in this game the people you treat well remember it.

Isabel (CV: Yurika Hirayama)

Isabel

One of the NPC figures of SATISFY's nobility, where a single relationship can open or close a door for Grid.

Huroi (CV: Shuntaro Takayama)

Huroi

One of the NPCs Grid meets on his way up, and a reminder that the game's non-player characters matter as much as its rankers.

In a game where NPCs remember how you treated them, those relationships end up mattering as much as Grid's gear. If the anime has you hooked on that world, the next question is where to keep going.

Webtoon vs. Web Novel: Where to Read After the Anime

Overgeared has two sources, and they're at very different points:

  • The web novel by Saenal (Park Saenal) is the original and it's finished. It ran on KakaoPage from November 2014 to April 2024 and totals 2,059 chapters, and the English translation is published on Wuxiaworld.
  • The webtoon, adapted by Monohumbug (REDICE STUDIO) and illustrated by Team Argo, started in April 2020 and is still ongoing. It's the version most anime viewers will recognize, since the anime's character designs follow it closely.

The anime starts at the very beginning, so there's nothing to catch up on before episode 1. The first stretch of the story is Grid's rock bottom: the class change item he tries to sell, the count who hunts him down for it, the restart at negative level and the slow grind toward his first legendary item. With a story over 2,000 chapters long, any first season will cover only a small part of it, which is good news if you want to keep reading. The webtoon is the easier way in; the novel is where you go if you want everything, and want it now.
