The Wash It All Away anime ran for 12 episodes from January 5 to March 23, 2026, simulcast on Crunchyroll, and it was one of the gentlest and most quietly mysterious shows of the Winter 2026 season. Based on Mitsuru Hattori's manga Kirei ni Shite Moraemasu ka, it follows Wakana Kinme, who runs a small laundry shop in the hot-spring town of Atami. Everyone in town loves her, and she loves her work and her baths. But Wakana lost her memory two years ago, and nobody, including Wakana, knows who she was before she arrived.

On the surface it's a show about laundry and hot springs, so what exactly is it about?

Wash It All Away Plot: Laundry, Hot Springs and a Missing Past

Wakana runs Kinme Cleaning in Atami, a seaside town full of hot springs. She takes every job seriously, from stubborn stains to delicate fabrics, and her customers are her neighbors: an innkeeper's son, a girl who loves to draw, a married regular who arrives by bike, and her elderly landlady.

As for its genre, Wash It All Away is a slice-of-life comedy with a gentle romantic thread and an ongoing mystery. Most episodes are small and warm, about a stain, a customer or a bath. Underneath, the question never goes away: Wakana has no memory of her life before Atami. The show's charm comes from that contrast. The present is so peaceful that the past feels like a threat, even though nobody knows what it is.

Why Atami Matters

Atami is a real hot-spring resort town on the coast of Shizuoka Prefecture, and the series makes it a character of its own. The sea, the steep streets and the public baths are part of almost every episode, and Wakana's love of hot springs is her favorite way to unwind after work. That strong sense of place is a big reason the show feels so calm. It also explains why the mystery lands so hard: Wakana has built a whole life in this town, and finding out who she used to be could change all of it.

Wakana, Kyūshō and the Romance Question

Kyūshō Ishimochi is the closest thing the series has to a love interest. He's a high schooler, the son of an innkeeper and a regular at Kinme Cleaning, and he has a soft spot for Wakana that he usually hides. Their scenes give the show its romantic tension, and they're why "Wash It All Away romance" and "Wash It All Away kiss" are such common searches.

The romance is slow and understated, closer to quiet glances than big confessions. Kyūshō is a teenager and Wakana is a working adult with no memory of her own past, so the show treats their connection carefully. Whether it goes anywhere is part of what keeps people watching, and part of why the ending matters so much.

Before the ending, though, it helps to know the small cast that makes Atami feel like home.

Wash It All Away Characters & Voice Cast

The cast is small, and every character is someone Wakana sees regularly. Sayumi Suzushiro voices Wakana, mixing cheerful energy with a mysterious, unreadable side. Here are the main characters with their Japanese voice actors (CV).

Wash It All Away Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up

The Wash It All Away manga is complete. Mitsuru Hattori serialized it in Square Enix's Young Gangan from July 2017 to June 2023, and it's collected in 12 volumes. In English, Square Enix Manga & Books publishes it, starting with Volume 1 in April 2025.

Twelve episodes can't cover twelve volumes, so the anime adapts only part of the manga. No official source gives the exact chapter where the anime stops. Because the manga is finished, though, reading it from the start is the surest way to get the full story, including what happened to Wakana before Atami. Hattori also released a new side story in 2025.

Wash It All Away Ending: Anime vs. Manga

The anime ends after 12 episodes, but it doesn't reach the end of Hattori's story. The manga ran for six years and continues well past where the anime stops, all the way to its conclusion. If you finished the anime wanting more of Wakana's story, the manga is where to get it, and since it's complete, you won't be left waiting for new chapters. The side story adds a little more for readers who want extra time in Atami.

With the manga finished and the anime done, that leaves one question: will there be a Wash It All Away Season 2?
