The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer anime ran for 12 episodes from January 4 to March 22, 2026, simulcast on Crunchyroll, and it was the Winter 2026 season's strangest workplace comedy. Diomedéa adapted Yawora Tsugumi's manga Goumon Baito-kun no Nichijou, set in a world where killing and torture are legal. The staff at Spirytus, a torture contractor that only takes villains as clients, are some of the friendliest coworkers in anime. That contrast is the whole joke: the job is dark, but the people doing it act like they work at a cozy café.

The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer Release Date and Global Streaming Schedule

All 12 episodes are finished and streaming. That makes it easy to binge, which suits a comedy built from short, self-contained workdays that slowly reveal more about each part-timer.

Knowing when it aired is easy. Explaining how a show about torturers ends up this wholesome takes more work.

The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer Plot: A Dark Job with a Warm Office

Spirytus is one of the top torture contractors in its industry, and it's considered a model employer because it only targets criminals. Four part-timers work there: Cero, the capable ace who gets along with everyone; Shiu, a living legend of the torture world; Mikke, a cute and energetic new hire; and Hugh, a serious, kind-hearted university student. Around them are a junk dealer, a cleanup crew and other strange professionals who keep the business running.

The anime's own description calls it "a slightly dark workplace comedy," and that's accurate. The violence is mostly implied and played for laughs, while the real focus is the coworkers: who brings snacks, who's bad with clients, who secretly cares the most. It works because the show never pretends the job is nice. The characters are kind to each other in spite of it.

How Dark Is It?

Darker than its bright, cheerful art suggests, but lighter than its title. The torture is part of the premise, yet the show cares far more about the people than the punishment. Each episode puts its energy into office life: training new hires, clashing personalities, awkward clients and the odd sweet moment between coworkers. If you like comedies where the joke is ordinary people acting normal in an absurd job, this fits right in. If any on-screen cruelty is a dealbreaker for you, the title alone should tell you to check the trailers first.

Shiu, His Family and Hugh's Hidden Face

Two characters drive many of the searches for this series. Shiu is the torture world's legend, but he's also a devoted father: Reu and Nero, two of the cast's youngest characters, are his seven-year-old twin daughters. That's why people search for Shiu's wife and family, and his home life is one of the show's warmest contrasts with his job.

Hugh is the other. He's very tall, gentle and always hides his face behind a scarf. Why he hides it is part of his mystery, and searching for a "Hugh face reveal" won't get you an official answer here, because we won't spoil it. It's one of the running mysteries that keeps viewers watching.

Shiu and Hugh are only two of the coworkers, though. Here's everyone else at Spirytus and around it.

The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer Manga Guide: Where the Anime Picks Up

The manga by Yawora Tsugumi has run on Hakusensha's Young Animal Web since December 2022 and is still ongoing, with at least seven volumes released in Japan. Its short, workday-sized chapters translate well to anime, which is why the adaptation feels like a series of shifts rather than one long plot.

No official source gives the exact chapter where the anime stops. Because the manga is ongoing and the anime covers only part of it, there is already more material, including new characters the voice cast hinted at in interviews. The manga is also the only place to see more of Hugh's story and the rest of the Spirytus staff for now.

That leaves the question fans ask most: will Spirytus open its doors for a Season 2?
