In a new official interview, Miyu Irino (Tomoro Tenma) and Megumi Han (Gekkomon) talk about watching the finale with the staff, how much Tomoro changed and why they now call their partnership one for life. The story follows Tomoro Tenma, whose life changes when Gekkomon bursts out of his Sapotama, an AI support device powered by "e-Pulse," the energy of human thoughts and emotions. Tomoro ends up living with Kyo Sawashiro and the bounty-hunting team Glowing Dawn in a world where Digimon feed on that same e-Pulse. With the story finished, the next question is whether it continues.
Will Digimon Beatbreak Get a Season 2?
No Digimon Beatbreak season 2 has been announced. Toei Animation has confirmed a brand-new Digimon TV anime for 2027 as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary, but it's described as an entirely new series, and its title, staff and story haven't been revealed. Since October 4, its Sunday 9:00 a.m. slot has aired Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure, a program of fan-voted episodes from Digimon Adventure, Adventure 02, Tamers and Frontier.
There is one more piece of Beatbreak news: on the day of the finale, the official site announced that a Blu-ray release is in the works, with details to come on the site and the official X account. Megumi Han also says in the interview that she wishes the show had continued and would love a sequel, but that's a hope, not an announcement. That interview is the main event, so here are its highlights.
Miyu Irino and Megumi Han's Finale Interview: Key Takeaways
The official site published a full joint interview with Miyu Irino and Megumi Han on October 15, 2026, recorded on the day they watched the final episode together with the staff. These are the points that stood out to us, in our own words.
This section discusses events from episodes 48 and 49, including the ending. If you're still watching, especially the English dub, skip ahead to the streaming guide below.
"It Really Ended": Watching the Finale With the Staff
Irino says the loss only hit him that day. Recording had wrapped long before, but as long as the show was on air, it still felt like it was going on. Watching the last episode with everyone made it real. Han admitted she still couldn't picture Sundays without it. She wishes it had gone on longer and would love a sequel, but she called the finale both an epilogue and a prologue to what comes next, and said seeing the staff visibly relieved afterwards told her the show had landed safely.
The Finale Moment Both Actors Picked
For both actors, the heart of the finale is Tomoro reaching his older brother Asuka. In episode 1, Tomoro couldn't take Asuka's hand. After 49 episodes, he finally does. Han points out that for most of the series, Asuka was the one reaching out to Tomoro, so having Tomoro be the one who catches him hits hard. She also notes that on the final key visual, Tomoro and Gekkomon reach out together, not one of them alone. Han also liked that the ending opens a world where humans and Digimon live side by side without pretending every problem is solved: Digimon crime and the Cleaners are still around.
How Tomoro Changed
Irino says Tomoro changed completely, and that this was always Tomoro's story. At the start, he was isolated, uninterested in people and close to giving up on the world. He couldn't even complain out loud. By the end, he speaks his feelings openly, relies on other people and acts for them. Han jokes that early on, Tomoro wouldn't even call Gekkomon by name, and Irino adds that it was just "you" or "this guy." In episode 1, Han says, viewers weren't even sure Gekkomon was on Tomoro's side.
Gekkomon as Tomoro's Mirror
Han sees Gekkomon as the one who never changed. Gekkomon was free from the moment he was born, and that freedom is what changed Tomoro. Because Gekkomon came out of Tomoro, she describes him as a mirror: the voice for the feelings Tomoro couldn't express. The one time Gekkomon shut himself away was episode 48, when he decided he had to protect Tomoro and tried to save him through self-sacrifice. Han calls it the wrong way to save someone, but a kind of growth. What got her through those painful scenes was Irino's Tomoro, who kept calling him "Gekkomon" even when he had lost control of his evolved form.
Partners for Life
Before Beatbreak, the two had worked together but never as partners. Irino says he was struck by how deep Han's love for Digimon goes and how she looked after the whole cast. Han says Irino's Tomoro never had a limiter on his emotions. Irino explained where that comes from: at 16 or 17, while working on Eyeshield 21, Kappei Yamaguchi told him he was braking himself and shouldn't set his own limits. Han compared that to Beatbreak itself, where what one person receives gets passed on to the next.
Irino also loves a running gag: Gekkomon's mixed-up idioms. What started as "he's saying weird things again" became a routine for the pair and for viewers, and he says he felt real love in it in the final scenes. Han adds that only Tomoro could ever decode them, and that the correcting itself became part of their bond.
Irino ends on his own name. Written with the kanji for "freedom," Miyu is a name he got from his father, and freedom was the show's central theme. He grew up loving Digimon, and he says the series even made sense of the Digimon auditions he failed in the past. Both actors call Tomoro and Gekkomon a mirror of themselves, and both use the same word for what the show became: something for life.
