The A Tale of the Secret Saint anime release date was Saturday, October 3, 2026: FelixFilm's adaptation of Tensei shita Daiseijo wa, Seijo de Aru Koto wo Hitakakusu (転生した大聖女は、聖女であることをひた隠す) premiered at 22:00 JST on TOKYO MX, with BS11 and Sun TV in Japan and Crunchyroll streaming it worldwide. Three hundred years ago, the Great Saint Seraphina was betrayed and killed by the Demon King's right-hand general, with a warning that if she was ever reborn, she'd be found and killed again. Now she has been reborn, as Fia Ruud, a cheerful girl who only wants to be a knight, and she remembers all of it on the edge of death. Her plan is simple: blend in, be ordinary, never act like a saint. The problem is that her miracles are anything but ordinary, and she can't watch someone get hurt without fixing it, usually in front of the kingdom's most elite knights.

A Tale of the Secret Saint Release Date, Schedule, and Where to Watch

The anime airs weekly on Saturdays at 22:00 JST on TOKYO MX, with BS11 and Sun TV also broadcasting it. It's a prime early-evening slot by anime standards, and it suits a show that's more warm comedy than late-night grit.

A Tale of the Secret Saint Where to Watch: Simulcast Streaming & Global Airing

Outside Japan, Crunchyroll holds the license and streams the series weekly. That makes the answer to "where to watch" simple for most of the world: if you have Crunchyroll, you're set. Since the Japanese broadcast lands on Saturday evening JST, new episodes reach the Americas on Saturday morning and Europe in the early afternoon, so check your local Crunchyroll page for the exact time in your region.

Episode Order & Cour Projections

The episode count hasn't been officially announced. The story's opening arc, though, is clear from the source: Fia's entrance into the knighthood, her pact with the black dragon Zavilia, and her first assignments with the brigades, where monster subjugation missions keep putting her in situations where hiding her power is nearly impossible. With 12 light novel volumes and 14 manga volumes to draw on, there's far more material than one season can cover, so expect the first season to focus on Fia's early days as a knight and the captains who start to suspect her.

Of course, the captains don't just suspect her. Some of them are drawn to her, too.

A Tale of the Secret Saint Romance & Knight Dynamics: Who Will Discover Fia's Secret?

"Is there romance in A Tale of the Secret Saint?" is one of the most common questions about the series, and the honest answer is: yes, slowly. This isn't a story where Fia is torn between suitors from episode one. The romance lives in the gaps between missions, and much of it is about who sees through her first.

Commander Saviz Náv is the most obvious candidate. As the King's brother and the head of the entire Knight Brigades, he's used to reading people, and he notices very quickly that the new recruit is hiding something. Their scenes run on that tension: he's trying to work her out, she's trying to look ordinary, and neither of them fully succeeds.

Captain Cyril Sutherland plays it differently. He's dutiful, protective and has firm ideas about what saints are and how they should behave. Fia keeps challenging those ideas without meaning to, and his growing care for her becomes one of the gentler threads of the story.

Then there's Zavilia, which is where the comedy really kicks in. He's one of the Three Calamity Beasts, a black dragon who could terrify an army, and he spends most of his time as Fia's pampered familiar, perched on her shoulder and quietly keeping a list of everyone who has wronged her. The gap between his power and his devotion is one of the show's best running jokes.

Who figures out Fia's secret first? That's the hook that keeps the series moving. Here's everyone in the running.

A Tale of the Secret Saint Light Novel & Manga: Where to Read

The story began as a web novel by Touya (十夜) on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2019. Earth Star Entertainment publishes it as a light novel with illustrations by chibi, now at 12 volumes, plus a prequel spin-off, Zero. The series has more than 2.7 million copies in circulation and has placed second in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings.

The manga adaptation by Mahito Aobe has run in Comic Earth Star since December 2019 and reached 14 volumes by April 2026. It's widely praised for its art, and for many fans it's the easiest way into the story. In English, Seven Seas Entertainment publishes both the light novels and the manga.

If you've seen searches like "A Tale of the Secret Saint chapter 46" trending, that's manga readers keeping up with the ongoing serialization, far ahead of what the anime will reach soon. The anime starts from the very beginning, so you don't need to read anything first. If you want to read ahead after watching, the manga is the most direct match for the anime's pacing, and the light novels have the most detail.

And the people adapting it have serious credentials.

FelixFilm Daiseijo Anime Production & Soundtrack: Kenichiro Suehiro's Orchestration

FelixFilm animates the series, with Tomoe Makino directing and Deko Akao writing the series composition. Satomi Kurita adapts the character designs, and Ryosuke Naya directs the sound.

The music is by Kenichiro Suehiro, the composer behind Re:Zero and Golden Kamuy, which gives the show's bigger moments an orchestral weight that fits a story about a legendary saint in hiding. The opening theme is "Flare of Soul" by Kaya, and the ending is "STELLAR" by Utahime Dream All-Stars.
