The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 release date was Thursday, October 1, 2026: Koori no Jouheki (氷の城壁), also known as The Ice Barrier, returned at 23:56 JST across 28 TBS-affiliated stations, with Netflix streaming it first from October 2. Season 1 was about the wall Koyuki Hikawa built around herself after middle school, and the three people who wouldn't stop knocking on it. Season 2 is where knocking isn't enough. The four-way balance between Koyuki, Minato, Miki and Yota starts to come apart: feelings that were never said out loud catch up with everyone, an old name from Koyuki's middle school past comes back, and a very direct first-year named Momoka Kuriki makes it clear she wants Minato. Nobody gets to stay comfortable anymore.
The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 Release Date, Streaming Schedule & Where to Watch
Season 1 premiered on Netflix on April 2, 2026, and wrapped in early July. It was a hit in Japan, where it climbed to No. 2 on Netflix's top ten, and it charted in more than 20 other countries. That's the audience Season 2 comes back to, three months later.
The Ramparts of Ice Where to Watch: Netflix Early Access & Other Platforms
Netflix is the home of the series. It streams Season 2 weekly and worldwide, starting October 2, and in Japan it has an early window before anyone else. After that, Japanese viewers can also watch on Prime Video, Disney+ and U-NEXT. If you're outside Japan, Netflix is the answer, and Season 1 is there too if you want to rewatch before the new episodes.
Broadcast Time & 28-Station TBS Simulcast
On Japanese TV, Season 2 airs every Thursday at 23:56 JST on TBS and 27 affiliated stations, 28 in all, broadcasting nationwide at the same time. The episode count hasn't been announced.
The where and when are simple. The what happens next is the part fans are actually searching for.
The Ramparts of Ice Koyuki & Minato: Will the Ice Barrier Finally Melt?
If you've seen "Koyuki and Minato" trending, this is why. Their relationship is the center of the series, and Season 2 is where it gets tested for real.
What makes them interesting is that they're hiding in opposite ways. Koyuki keeps people out: she decided a long time ago that distance is safer than being hurt again, and her coldness is a defense, not who she is. Minato lets everyone in. He's friendly with everyone, crosses lines without noticing and never seems to need anything from anyone. Under that, he's afraid of being rejected, and being liked by everyone is his way of never having to find out whether someone really likes him. Two people who protect themselves that differently can't get close without someone giving something up.
The other two are the counterweight. Yota is patient and gentle, the kind of person who will wait as long as it takes and notices what others miss. Miki is the opposite of Koyuki on the surface, outgoing and easy to like, but she carries quiet insecurities of her own that the people around her rarely see. Season 2 puts all four under pressure at once, and the question isn't just who ends up with whom. It's who is honest enough to say what they want.
Season 2 also adds pressure from outside the group. Tsubasa Igarashi brings Koyuki's middle school past back into the room, the one thing her walls were built to keep out. Momoka Kuriki, meanwhile, doesn't do subtle: she likes Minato and says so. Both force the core four to stop circling and react, and neither lets anyone keep pretending that nothing has changed.
Do Koyuki and Minato end up together? We're not going to spoil it. The story has a real ending, though, and we'll get to that. First, here's everyone involved.
The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 Characters: Cast & New Faces
The core four. The first-year quartet at the heart of the story.
Koyuki Hikawa (CV: Anna Nagase)
The guarded protagonist. After a bad experience in middle school, she built a wall between herself and almost everyone, and Season 2 is about what it costs to take it down.
Miki Azumi (CV: Fuka Izumi)
Koyuki's bright childhood friend, the one everyone likes, who hides her own insecurities better than anyone notices.
Minato Amamiya (CV: Shoya Chiba)
The boy with no sense of personal space, friendly to everyone, and much more fragile underneath than he lets anyone see.
Yota Hino (CV: Satoshi Inomata)
Minato's tall, gentle friend from the basketball team, who says little and notices everything.
Classmates and middle school ties. One person who made Koyuki's world a little bigger, and one tied to the reason she shut it down.
Tsukiko Shimojima (CV: Sakura Shinfuku)
An art club member who became Koyuki's quiet companion in the library, one of the few people she let in easily.
Tsubasa Igarashi (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi)
A blunt soccer player tied to the middle school experience that made Koyuki put up her walls.
The new underclassmen. Season 2's new arrivals, and the reason nobody in the core four can stand still.
Momoka Kuriki (CV: Akari Kito)
A straightforward first-year who makes no secret of the fact that she's chasing Minato.
Yuki Azumi (CV: Kakeru Hatano)
Miki's perceptive younger brother, who says exactly what he thinks without a second's hesitation.
Akine Atagawa (CV: Natsumi Kawaida)
A stoic underclassman who watches Koyuki from a distance.
Mascots and companions. Not everyone in this story is human.
Ponta
The Amamiya family's fluffy Pomeranian.
Uppi
The much-loved mascot of the UPPI GOLD PARK theme park.
If these characters have you invested, the good news is that their story is already complete.
Is The Ramparts of Ice Manga Finished? The Ramparts of Ice Manga Ending & Webtoon Pacing
Yes, the manga is finished. Kocha Agasawa's webtoon ran on LINE Manga from January 2020 to April 2022 and ended after 130 chapters. Shueisha then collected it in print under its Jump Comics label, ending at Volume 14. It has passed 190 million views on LINE Manga and 2.8 million copies in circulation, digital included. Agasawa later went on to create Seihantai na Kimi to Boku (You and I Are Polar Opposites).
That matters for the anime. Because the story is complete, Season 2 isn't racing to catch up with an ongoing manga or setting up a third season it might never get. It's heading into the emotional climax of a story that already knows how it ends, and the source material spends a lot of time on the moments where these four finally say what they mean. Expect Season 2 to take its time there too.
And if you can't wait to find out about Koyuki and Minato? The completed manga will tell you, but the anime is worth letting it land on its own terms.
A quiet story like this depends heavily on the people behind it.
Studio KAI Koori no Jouheki Production & Soundtrack: THE BEAT GARDEN & Superfly
Studio KAI animates the series again, with director Mankyu and series composer Yasuhiro Nakanishi back from Season 1. It's a character-driven production rather than a flashy one: much of the drama is in pauses, glances and things left unsaid, and the show trusts its quiet scenes.
The music frames each episode. The opening theme is "Escort" (エスコート) by THE BEAT GARDEN, and the ending is "Hanakage" (花蔭) by Superfly, one of Japan's best-known vocalists, whose voice suits a story about feelings that take a long time to come out.
